ASA Filament
AdvancedAcrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate (ASA)
UV-resistant outdoor filament — survives Utah sun and weather
ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is the outdoor-ready upgrade from ABS. It prints similarly but adds dramatically better UV and weather resistance, making it the go-to choice for parts that live outside. In Utah — with intense sun, wide temperature swings, and low humidity — ASA consistently outperforms PLA, PETG, and ABS for outdoor applications. Prints best in an enclosure to prevent warping.

ASA Filament — FAQ
Where can I buy ASA filament in Utah?

What is ASA filament used for?
ASA is the #1 choice for outdoor 3D prints. Its UV stability means it won't yellow, fade, or embrittle in direct sunlight — unlike PLA (which degrades quickly) or even PETG (which degrades slowly). Use it for outdoor signs, garden tools, security camera mounts, drone bodies, automotive exterior parts, and any part exposed to weather.
Is ASA better than PETG for outdoor use in Utah?
For long-term outdoor exposure, yes. PETG handles short-term outdoor use fine, but its UV resistance is moderate — over months in Utah's intense sun, PETG will start to degrade. ASA is designed for sustained UV and weather exposure and stays stable much longer. For anything living outside permanently, ASA is the better choice.
Does ASA need an enclosure?
Yes — like ABS, ASA warps without a controlled ambient temperature. An enclosure is strongly recommended, especially for larger parts. Without one, corners lift and layers separate. If you don't have an enclosure, our team can print it for you using our production machines.
Is ASA similar to ABS?
Very similar in print settings and feel, but ASA is better in most respects. It has better UV resistance, slightly better impact resistance, and less shrinkage/warping than ABS. If you're printing outdoor parts, choose ASA over ABS. If you need acetone smoothing or are printing indoors with heat resistance, either works.
