Does PLA need a heated bed?
PLA prints well on both heated and unheated beds. A heated bed (45–60°C) improves first-layer adhesion, especially for larger prints. It's the most forgiving material for bed leveling.
Can you print with PLA without an enclosure?
Yes — PLA is the one material that prints great without an enclosure. No fumes, no warping issues in most environments. Great for desktop printers and open-frame setups.
Is PLA food safe?
Standard PLA is not food safe because of the porous layer structure (bacteria trap) and the brass nozzle used in most printers. For food-contact items, use a stainless steel nozzle and seal with a food-safe coating — or just buy the container instead.
