BeginnerSilk PLA (Shiny PLA)
Glossy, metallic-looking prints with zero extra effort
Silk PLA is standard PLA with a special additive that produces a gorgeous glossy, satin, or metallic-looking surface finish straight off the printer — no post-processing needed. It prints just like regular PLA but looks like polished metal or flowing silk. Perfect for decorative pieces, cosplay props, trophies, figurines, and anything where appearance matters.

Silk PLA Filament — FAQ
Where can I buy Silk PLA filament in Utah?
Forgely Roy carries Silk PLA filament at our walk-in store in Roy, UT — 5519 S 1900 W, Roy, UT 84067. We stock gold, silver, copper, rose gold, and dual-color silk options. Open Mon–Fri 11am–6pm, Sat 11am–3pm. Come see the shimmer in person — photos don't do silk filament justice.
Is Silk PLA hard to print?
No — silk PLA prints like standard PLA. Same temperatures, no enclosure needed, and bed adhesion is just as good. The only difference is slightly more tendency to string on travel moves. Lower your temp by 5°C from standard PLA and enable combing in your slicer to minimize stringing.
What is dual-color or rainbow Silk PLA?
Dual-color silk filament has two different colors blended into a single strand. As the spool unwinds, the colors rotate — giving you a color-shift effect across the print. Gold-blue, red-copper, and purple-gold are popular combos. The effect varies depending on your layer height and print speed.
Can I use Silk PLA for functional parts?
Silk PLA has similar mechanical properties to standard PLA — good for light-duty functional parts but not for high stress, heat, or impact. For mechanical parts, consider PETG or ABS. Silk PLA shines (literally) in decorative and display applications.
How do I get the best finish from Silk PLA?
Print slightly slower than your standard PLA speed — 40–60mm/s instead of 80mm/s. Lower your temperature slightly (195–210°C). Enable combing to reduce travel stringing. A smooth PEI or glass bed gives the cleanest first layer. Avoid cooling below 50% — silk PLA needs a bit of warmth to flow properly.
