3D Printing for Home Improvement: What You Can Make in Utah

From custom cabinet hardware to plumbing aids and garden tools — discover how Utah homeowners are using 3D printing for practical home improvement and DIY projects.

Utah homeowners are discovering that a 3D printer is the ultimate shop tool — not just for hobbyists but for practical home improvement and repairs. Here's what's actually useful to print, how to get started, and when to skip the DIY route and just come to us.

Practical Home Improvement Prints That Actually Work

Hardware & Fasteners

  • Cabinet door bumpers and soft-close inserts — print them in TPU for cushioning
  • Replacement drawer pulls and handles — match any style if the original is discontinued
  • Custom shelf brackets — designed for your exact wall spacing and load
  • Outlet and switch plate covers — custom sizes for non-standard openings

Plumbing & Appliances

  • Dishwasher tine caps — these break constantly and cost $20+ to replace. Print a bag for $0.30.
  • Refrigerator bin clips and drawer slides — common failures on older fridges
  • Sink aerator adaptors — connect non-standard fittings
  • Washing machine lint trap inserts — custom-fit replacements

Garden & Outdoor

  • Irrigation T-fittings and caps — use PETG or ASA for UV resistance
  • Custom plant labels — add names to the design, print in quantity
  • Tool handles and grips — replace broken handles or add ergonomic grip in TPU
  • Bird feeder perches and hangers — outdoor use needs PETG or ASA, not standard PLA

Organization & Storage

  • Custom cable management clips — specific hole sizes, cable diameters, and mounting points
  • Garage wall hooks — print exactly the profile you need for bikes, tools, or cords
  • Under-sink organizer bins — designed around your plumbing layout
  • Junk drawer dividers — measure your drawer, design to fit exactly

Material Guide for Home Improvement

  • PLA — indoor only, low heat. Great for decorative hardware, organizers, labels.
  • PETG — water-resistant, better heat tolerance. Ideal for plumbing adjacent items and outdoor use.
  • TPU — flexible, rubber-like. Perfect for bumpers, grips, gaskets, and anything that needs give.
  • ASA — UV-stable and weatherproof. Best for outdoor hardware, irrigation, and anything in direct sun.

How Utah Homeowners Use Forgely Roy

Most of our home improvement customers fall into two camps:

  1. Bring us the broken part — We reverse-engineer it, model a replacement, and print it while you wait. Particularly useful for older appliances and discontinued hardware.
  2. Submit a file online — Use forgelyroy.com/quote to upload an STL or describe your project. We'll quote it same day.

We serve homeowners across Roy, Ogden, Layton, Clearfield, West Haven, and the broader Weber and Davis County area.

What 3D Printing Can't Do (Yet)

Not everything is worth printing at home. Load-bearing structural parts, pressurized plumbing connections over 40 PSI, and anything in a high-heat environment (>80°C) generally shouldn't be printed in standard FDM plastic. When in doubt, ask us — we'll tell you honestly if a printed solution will hold up.
