Bambu Lab X1C vs P1S: Which 3D Printer Should You Buy in 2026?
Deciding between the Bambu Lab X1C and P1S? We compare features, print quality, AMS compatibility, and value to help you choose. Expert advice from Forgely Roy in Roy, Utah.
Bambu Lab has taken the 3D printing world by storm — fast speeds, excellent out-of-box quality, and a seamless ecosystem. But if you're comparing the X1C and P1S, the choice isn't obvious. Both are excellent printers. Here's how to decide which one is right for you.
Quick Comparison

What the Lidar Does (X1C Only)
The X1C has a lidar scanner that scans the first layer in real time, detecting adhesion failures and calibrating flow automatically. In practice:
- First layer failures are caught early (printer pauses and alerts you)
- Flow calibration is more consistent across filament brands/batches
- Slightly better consistency on challenging materials
If you're printing mission-critical parts or engineering materials at scale, the lidar is genuinely useful. For hobby printing or standard PLA/PETG, the P1S delivers almost identical results.
Camera and AI Monitoring
The X1C's HD camera supports AI-based spaghetti detection — it can identify when prints go catastrophically wrong and pause the print automatically. The P1S has a standard camera for remote monitoring, but without the AI detection.
Noise and Acoustic Foam
The P1S actually has better acoustic foam than the X1C, making it slightly quieter in operation. If you're printing in a bedroom, office, or shared space, the P1S may be the more considerate neighbor.
Which One to Choose
Choose the X1C if:
- You print a lot of AMS multi-color or multi-material jobs
- You need maximum consistency across different filament brands
- You want AI monitoring to catch failures automatically
- You run a small print farm or do professional work
- Budget isn't the deciding factor
Choose the P1S if:
- You want the best value in the Bambu lineup
- You print mainly standard materials (PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA)
- You care about noise (better foam)
- You're upgrading from an open-frame printer and want an enclosure
- You want to add AMS later but aren't ready for the X1C premium
One More Option: The A1 Combo
If multi-color is your goal and budget matters, the Bambu A1 + AMS Lite combo delivers up to 4-color printing at a lower price point than either the X1C or P1S. It's a CoreXY bed slinger (not enclosed), so not ideal for ABS/ASA, but it's an absolute workhorse for PLA and PETG multi-color.
